CLS Summer Blog Hop – Star Spangled Scrapbook Layouts

Happy Fourth of July, and welcome to our Creative Life Scrapbooking Summer Blog Hop!  There are six of us blog hopping today and sharing some great summer scrapbooking ideas with you.  I’m the first stop on the hop, and you can find the link to the next stop at the bottom of my post.

I used the new Limited Edition Star Spangled Paper Pack from Creative Memories to create my 4th of July layout.  This paper pack is only available while supplies last and features traditional patriotic designs and true red, white and blue colors.  I was inspired by the name of the paper pack to create a layout featuring stars.  Currently, CM has three star-based tools that I used for my layout – the Star Border Maker Cartridge, the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch, and the Shooting Star Punch.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSSummerBlogHopStarSpangled - Page 084

Start your layout by creating a border for the top of your page.  Use the Original Border Maker System with Star Border Maker Cartridge to punch a border from the light blue patterned paper.  Cut the border off of your paper at 1-1/2″ using the 12″ Decorative Trimmer.  Use the 12″ Decorative Trimmer to cut a narrow 1/8″ piece from Red Cardstock for the bottom of the border.

Mat a 4″ x 6″ photo with Red Cardstock.  Create photo corners from 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ squares that are punched with the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

I created my jumbo star from 5 triangles that I matted with slightly larger triangle shapes.  Cut three 3-1/4″ x 4″ squares and two 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ squares from the red patterned paper.  Cut three 3-3/4″ x 4-1/2″ squares and two 4″ x 5″ squares from the light blue patterned paper.  Cut each square into a triangle as shown below and mat the red squares on top of the blue squares.  Assemble your star, by positioning the pieces in relation to your photo to get the spacing and shape that you desire.  I used Repositionable Tape for my star pieces as I had to tinker with them a bit.  I adhered my photo with Foam Squares.

The title piece is cut from one of the sheets of the Star Spangled Paper and double matted with light blue paper and Red Cardstock.  Punch the corners of the light blue paper with the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

To embellish the page, I cut the heart piece from a sheet of the Star Spangled Paper, matted it with Red Cardstock, and adhered it with Foam Squares.  The light blue flowers are from the Mix & Match Blue Bouquet Embellishments, and I punched the ribbon pieces using the Shooting Star Punch.  The stars in the centers of the flowers were punched using the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSSummerBlogHopStarSpangled - Page 085

For my second page, I created a side border using the leftover triangle pieces from cutting the star pieces for the first page.  I repeated the top border, and matted my larger photo in the same fashion as my photo on the first page.  I included a journaling box and another paper flower embellishment.

Rainbow Scrapbook Layouts using Mix & Match Collection

Creative Memories has a new Mix & Match Collection that has been updated with fresh new colors and prints.  We have 5 paper packs and 5 embellishment packs in shades of Green, Blue, Pink, Yellow and Orange.  The colors are not too bright and not too light!  As the shades and tones remind me of the colors of a summer rainbow, I was inspired to create the layouts below.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSMixMatchBlogHop - Page 082

My first layout is a rainbow of colors that highlights the variety of paper prints in the collection and shows just how well they do mix and match.  There are some common prints across the 5 paper packs, and each pack also contains some unique prints.  There is also a nice mix of geometric and floral prints.

To make my layout, cutout the center of a piece of 12″ x 12″ Raspberry Cardstock leaving about a 1″ edge/frame.  Cut black cardstock to 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ and adhere to the raspberry frame.

To create the chevron shapes, cut your paper into 2-1/2″ x 1″ strips.  Using your Creative Memories 12″ Straight Trimmer, place the strip on the 30 degree angle line with the corner of the strip in the cutting grove and cut.  Rotate the piece around and place the opposite edge into the cutting groove keeping the strip lined up on the 30 degree angle mark and cut.  With all of your cuts, you’ll want to be as precise as you can as this will help with the arrangement on your layout.

Flip some of your pieces over, and use both the front and backsides of the strips as shown above.  I suggest arranging all of your pieces on the Black Cardstock first before starting to adhere.  Adhere your pieces leaving a small space between pieces.  CM’s Repositionable Tape Runner came in very handy for arranging the pieces.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSMixMatchBlogHop - Page 084

I included borders punched from Raspberry Cardstock using CM’s Original Border Maker System with the Dancing Daisies Border Maker Cartridge.  I cut the border apart and adhered it to the page in a zig zag pattern following the chevron pieces.  My photo is 5″ x 7″ and matted with Raspberry Cardstock.  I finished the page with epoxy and paper flowers from the Pink and Yellow Mix & Match Embellishments and a title using the new White Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSMixMatchBlogHopPage2

The sunburst pattern of my second layout evokes the look of a rainbow.  I created this layout using a traditional method of cutting strips to varying lengths and cutting the strips diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner to create wedge shapes.  After I completed my layout, Creative Memories introduced the new Sunburst Recipe Template which can be used to easily make my layout and many more!  Instead of giving step-by-step instructions to make my layout, I recommend purchasing the Sunburst Recipe Template since it can be used in many different ways.  (I amended my post to include the dimensions and cutting instructions for my layout.  Please see the bottom of this post.)

34417969_10214568214218130_3961725941759082496_n

The Sunburst Recipe Template comes with Multi-Purpose Clips to hold the template to your photos and papers when tracing and adhering.  It also comes with a Photo Labeling Pencil to use to trace the cutting pattern onto your photos.  Make sure to hold the pencil upright and not at a slant when tracing.  This will help to keep your template clean of pencil residue.  The waxy pencil easily wipes off of your photos, but do not use the Photo Labeling Pencil on your papers!  Stray marks will not erase from paper.  Instead lightly use a pencil to trace the pattern shapes onto your papers and use a regular eraser to lightly erase stray marks.  Again hold the pencil upright to keep pencil residue off of your template.  Please view this helpful video by Creative Memories.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSMixMatchBlogHop - Page 083

For my layout, I attached my pieces (including a piece from CM’s Black & White Paper) to a sheet of White Cardstock and then adhered a piece of 12″ x 5-1/2″ White Cardstock to the bottom of the page to cover up the areas where my pieces didn’t quite match up.  I also included a border punched from our new Leaf Green Cardstock using the Original Border Maker System with the Double Chevron Border Maker Cartridge.  My photo is 6″ x 4″ and matted with Leaf Green Cardstock.  The page is finished with paper flower and leaf embellishments from the Green Mix & Match Embellishments and stickers from our Black & White Stickers.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSMixMatchBlogHop - Page 085

My last rainbow layout is a breeze to make!  Just cut 2-1/4″ x 12″ strips from the watercolor wash prints from each Mix & Match paper pack and use CM’s Double Wave Tearing Tool to tear off 2″ from the bottom ends.  To easily tear the edges and preserve the double wave pattern, line up your paper strips edge to edge and place the tearing tool on top of the pieces to hold them down.  Tear each strip from left to right.

iphone6-23-18 135

Adhere your strips leaving about 1/8″ in-between strips and from the edges of the Black Cardstock.  My page is decorated with simple borders punched from Black Cardstock using the Original Border Maker System and new Camera Chain Border Maker Cartridge.  My photo mat is 8″ x 5-1/2″, and my photos are 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″.  I cut out a camera piece from one border to make my own camera embellishment, and I used our new Black Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers for my title.  These new letter sticker packs contain lots of letters and numbers and also some additional cute icons, such as hashtags, arrows, and chevrons and also a few simple word stickers.

You’ll find CM’s new Mix & Match Collection to be very versatile with beautiful colors and very usable prints.  The Mix & Match Embellishments have also been updated to include new paper flower and leaf embellishments and also new epoxy embellishments.  The Camera Chain and Double Chevron Border Maker Cartridges are also very versatile and can be used on almost any kind of layout.  To purchase any of these items, please visit my CM website.

Slice of Summer Scrapbook Layouts

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-SliceOfSummer - Page 087

August is such a bittersweet month for me.  Summer is almost over.  The days go by quickly as I try to soak up the last of the summer sun and fun.  But yet I look forward to the anticipation of the fresh start of a new school year and the coming autumn months. I have yet to download this summer’s photos from my camera, but Creative Memories Slice of Summer Collection was perfect for scrapping some photos from last summer.

You can make a variety of pages with the bright colors, fun patterns and stickers.  The papers have summer prints on one side and neutral solid patterns on the backsides.  The pages below were inspired by ideas that I found on Pinterest.
KarynCrops.wordpress.com-SliceOfSummer - Page 089

I embellished the page above with a variety of stickers and also borders from our new Scallop Burst Border Punch and Sprout Border Maker Cartridge.  The sweet bird was punched with our new Outdoor Adventure Quartet Punch.  I cut the yellow circles with our Custom Cutting System and Circles Patterns, and used Foam Squares to pop the bird, flower stickers and the banner sticker in the top corner.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-SliceOfSummer - Page 090

For this page, I again cut yellow circles with our Custom Cutting System and Circle Patterns and outlined my sun with a border punched from the Scallop Burst Border Punch.  Use your scissors to snip in-between each scallop in order to shape the border into a semi-circle.  Use Foam Squares to give the stickers some dimension – including the wave sticker across the bottom.  Finish the page with some pen detailing for extra definition.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-SliceOfSummer - Page 084

For my last page, I cut a variety of waves using our 12″ Decorative Trimmer on both the wave and swell sides.  The cute fish were punched with our Outdoor Adventure Quartet Punch and adhered with Foam Squares.  The title is a Slice of Summer Variety Mat.  Pen detailing really made a difference on this page.

The Slice of Summer Paper Pack also contains sheets of the cutest watermelon and popsicle/ice cream cone patterns!  Watch for more pages that I’ll be sharing soon!

You may purchase any of the materials and/or tools that I used on my Creative Memories website.

Americana Scrapbook Layouts

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-Fun4thCloseUp

The July 4th holiday is always a great mid-summer excuse to get together with friends and family.  I love grilling out, yard games, fireworks and all of the pageantry of the holiday.  Last year, we celebrated on our new boat with good friends.

I used the new Americana Paper pack from Creative Memories to scrapbook our memories of the day.  Although there are no stickers or embellishments to accompany this paper pack, I was able to create some great layouts using a variety of our tools.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-Fun4th

To create this layout, cut a 5″ x 8″ piece of dot paper in half diagonally using the 12″-Inch Straight Trimmer.  Use the Original Border Maker with Star Cartridge to punch two borders from cranberry cardstock.  Arrange and adhere the pieces on a sheet of navy cardstock as shown.  Repeat for the second page.

Use the CM Shooting Star Punch and a Silver Metallic Pen to create firework embellishments for the pages.  Adhere the stars with Foam Squares for extra pop.  Create a variety of waving stripes for embellishments and journaling boxes using the 12″-Inch Decorative Trimmer.  Add a title with Navy ABC/123 Stickers.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-Fun4thSingle

The Americana Paper and a few tools proved perfect for my fireworks photos.  Cut the starburst sheet of paper in half to get two pieces that measure 12″ x 6″ each.  Cut two sheets of the blue stripe paper to 12″ x 7″ each.  Use the Original Border Maker with Midnight Star Cartridge to punch two borders from cranberry cardstock.  Adhere all of the pieces together to get two 12″ x 12″ pages.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-BingBangBoom

To create the diagonal photo mat, cut a piece of cranberry cardstock to 3-3/4″ x 12″ and crop three photos and a piece of beige word patterned paper to fit.  Adhere to page, and cut off the overhang.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com - BoomSingle

Add additional photos matted with cranberry cardstock.  I used a 7″ x 5″ photo cut in two pieces on the page above and two 4″ x 6″ photos on the first page.  Add titles with Navy ABC/123 Stickers and additional stars punched with the Shooting Star Punch.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-BingBangSincle

My last layout is yet another version of my jumbo heart pages.  (Please see my blog post from February and my guest post on the CM Blog for other versions.)  This version of a waving flag was created with the 12″-Inch Decorative Trimmer.

Create a heart template by folding a piece of 12″ x 12″ cardstock in half. (The paper insert in our paper packs works great for this.)  Draw half of a heart shape and cut out with scissors.  From blue print and red striped papers, cut 1″ wide strips using the “swell” side of the 12″ Decorative Trimmer.  Use a small amount of CM’s Re-Positional Tape Runner to lightly adhere the strips to your template leaving 1/8″ in-between each strip.  Turn over your heart and cut off the over-hang.  Carefully remove each strip taking care not to bend the paper (CM’s Multi-Purpose Tool is great for this!).  Add more adhesive to each piece and re-adhere on a piece of beige word print paper to reassemble your heart.  Start with your bottom piece and work your way up.  As you may need to “tinker” with your pieces to get the shape right, just lightly lay the pieces down at first and move slightly as needed.  When you’re happy with your shape, rub on the pieces to more tightly adhere them.  The Re-Positional Tape will be very handy.  It’s supposed to look like a waving flag, so your shape doesn’t need to be perfect.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com - AllAmerican

Create a banner for the top of the page with blue hearts punched and trimmed from CM’s Shooting Star Punch and smaller stars punched from the Original Border Maker System with Star Cartridge.  Adhere the banner pieces with Foam Squares.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-AllAmericanCloseUp

Add a title using Denim ABC/123 Stickers and more stars adhered with Foam Squares to the bottom of your page.  Use a Black Dual-Tip Pen to finish your page with details.

You may purchase the Americana Paper and any of the tools that I used on my CM website.

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop!

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop

Welcome to our June Blog Hop!  The team at Creative Life Scrapbooking is back with a blog hop full of summer scrapbooking layouts and ideas.  At the bottom of my post, you’ll find the link to take you to the next stop on the hop.

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop

Sweet goodness is the perfect description of the new Made With Love Collection from Creative Memories!  The papers, stickers and variety mats are full of cheerful prints and food-inspired motifs.  This ensemble is the perfect complement for all of your food and kitchen related photos and memories.

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop

My first layout preserves the memory of my granddaughter eating her first ear of sweet corn in my kitchen.  The Made with Love Collection seems to be created especially for me as my kitchen is red and yellow and full of antique and vintage items.  To evoke the look of my battenberg lace curtains, I framed the pages with borders made with CM’s Original Border Maker System and Scallop Dot Cartridge.  I cut apart a border punched with our new Doily Border Punch to frame the title.

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop

I adhered the floral stickers with Foam Squares and added further embellishment with a few leaves punched with CM’s Leaf Trio Punch.  I finished the page with faux pen stitching and journaling.

Summer Scrapbook Ideas You Can Use Now-June Blog Hop

For my second layout, I created mini cutting boards with our 4-Way Corner and Hole Punch to mat my photos.  I edged the strip in the middle with borders punched with the Original Border Maker System with Zig Zag Cartridge.

Again, I adhered the stickers with Foam Squares, added a few leaves punched with the Leaf Trio Punch, and finished the page with some pen details.

My last layout shows that you don’t need food related photos in order to love and use the Made With Love Collection.  The sweet prints and floral accents are perfect for a variety of other uses.  I used some black cardstock and CM’s Original Border Maker System with the Scallop Dot and Zig Zag Cartridges to really make this page pop.

Floral Scrapbooking Layouts

DSC_0515

Typically National Scrapbook Day is celebrated on May 6th.  But this year, my scrapping buddies and I are celebrating with a workshop on April 28th and 29th.  To celebrate the event, Creative Memories produced an exclusive National Scrapbook Day Kit that is only available directly from a CM advisor.  The kit contains paper and stickers in shades of purple, green and teal and comes with instructions for 4 different two-page layouts.

However, I used the kit to create my own floral inspired layouts using our new Cherry Blossom Punch and a few other tools.  I also added some White, Black and Peacock Cardstock that helped to temper all of the bright colors and patterns of the designer paper.

KarynCrops.wordpress.comNationalScrapbookDay - Page 059

This first page is ready for a group photo of my friends attending my National Scrapbook workshop.  In addition to the Cherry Blossom Punch, I also used our new 4-Way Corner and Hole Punch, Leaf Trip Punch, and Original Border Maker System with Scallop Dot Cartridge.

  1. From White Cardstock, cut two strips to 12” x 1-1/2” and adhere to top and bottom of decorative paper.
  2. From Eggplant Cardstock, use Border Maker with Scallop Dot Cartridge to punch two borders. Cut off of your cardstock at 1”.  Adhere to the bottom and top of your white strips respectively.
  3. Cut a 12” x 2” strip of decorative paper, and adhere to the bottom of the page as shown.
  4. From White Cardstock, cut a 7-1/4” x 5-1/4” photo mat. Adhere photo mat to page with random pieces of Black, Peacock and Eggplant Cardstock behind it.  See photo.
  5. Cut a 2-3/8” x 4” piece from Black Cardstock and notch top ends with 4-Way Corner and Hole Punch. Cut a 2” x 3-1/2” piece from White Cardstock and notch top ends and punch hole with 4-Way Corner and Hole Punch.
  6. From decorative paper, Peacock, White and Black Cardstock, make a variety of flowers using Cherry Blossom Punch, small flower and small circle punches.
  7. Add pen detail to flowers and faux pen stitching as shown.

KarynCrops.wordpress.comNationalScrapbookDay - Page 058

My second page is ready for photos from my garden.  I just filled my window boxes with pretty annuals and will get a nice photo once they fill out some.

  1. From black cardstock, use Argyle Punch to punch a border.
  2. Cut a 9-1/4” x 8-1/2” piece of black cardstock.
  3. Cut two 4-1/4” x 6-1/4” pieces from purple decorative paper and two 4” x 6” pieces from White Cardstock. Assemble for photo mats.
  4. Cut two 4-5/8” x 2” pieces from green decorative paper, and cut ends at an angle as shown to make window boxes.
  5. Assemble page as shown. Adhere window boxes with Foam Squares.
  6. Adorn window boxes with pieces punched from White Cardstock with the Garden Vine Punch and small flowers. Adhere flowers with Foam Squares.
  7. Make three larger flowers using Cherry Blossom Punch and Leaf Trio Punch.
  8. Add pen detail as shown, and add a title with Black ABC/123 Stickers.

KarynCrops.wordpress.comNationalScrapbookDay2 - Page 043

My last layout is a two-page spread that will be perfect for photos of my granddaughter, Mother’s Day, or a spring bridal shower.

  1. Cut six strips from decorative paper to 11-1/2” x 1-½” and notch one end of each into a ribbon edge.  Adhere ½” from bottom of pages.
  2. Cut three photo mats from Peacock Cardstock to 4-1/4” x 6-1/4”. Cut 3 pieces from decorative paper to 4-1/4” x ½”.  Add to pages as shown.
  3. From Eggplant, White and Black Cardstock and decorative paper, make a variety of flowers using Cherry Blossom Punch, Leaf Trio Punch and small flower and circle punches. Add detail to flowers with black pen.
  4. To make journal box, cut a 3” x 4-1/2” peacock piece and a 2-3/4” x 4-1/4” white piece. Notch ends with 4-Way Corner and Hole Punch.  Add faux pen stitching.
  5. Add title with Black ABC/123 Stickers.

July Crop Club

Our new Cool Serenity Collection is perfect for beach, lake and river photos.  The shades of blue and green are beautiful, and the embellishments are some of my favorites.  I used this collection and the page sketch below from Noreen Smith for my July Crop Club.

2-page-watermarks-page-007

The border on this layout was made with our Original Border Maker System with our new Grass and Ocean Waves Cartridges.

2-page-watermarks-page-008

I used Foam Squares to create the layered Ocean Waves border at the bottoms of these pages.

2-page-watermarks-page-006

The grass border at the bottom was punched from the green cardstock in the Travel Solid 12×12 Cardstock Paper Pack. This pack of cardstock coordinates perfectly with the Cool Serenity Collection.

To purchase any of these items, please visit my CM website.  Through July 29th, receive $10 off of your online purchase by entering HEART10 in the Discount Codes box on the View Cart page.  To attend my next Crop Club workshop, please contact me.

Have Travel Photos?

We have TWO great new travel collections for you – Cool Serenity and Uncharted!  They are totally different, but both are beautiful!  I love the paper prints in both of these collections, but I really LOVE the die cut embellishments!  And to top if off, we have an item that has been on the top of my personal wish list – a new Grass Border Maker Cartridge!  Yay!  Here are some pages that I made with each of the new collections.

2-page-watermarks-page-012

I’m quite fond of this page that I made with our Uncharted Paper Pack, Embellishments, Stickers and Slide-In Pack!  Although it may look complicated, it was a snap to make.  The building tops are just small pieces of paper that I trimmed to points.  The green border on the bottom was punched with our Original Border Maker with Crown Cartridge.

2-page-watermarks-page-013

For this page, I started with an Uncharted Predesigned Page and added a Crown Border to look like a railroad trestle.  For instructions on how to make both of these pages, please see my post on the CM Blog from June 14th.

2-page-watermarks-page-011

This is a Cool Serenity Predesigned page that I dressed up with some added embellishment.  The grass border and the sun were made with our Border Maker with new Grass Cartridge.  The banner consists of 2″ circles that were cut in half.

2-page-watermarks-page-014

This layout is made with Cool Serenity Paper, Stickers and Embellishments.  The border at the bottom was punched with our Border Maker with Grass Cartridge.  The cute clouds were punched with our Word Bubble Punch – which is now only available while supplies last.  For instructions on how to make both of the Cool Serenity pages, please see my post on the CM Blog from June 20th.

Love This Paper Pack!

Here are two more reasons to attend my National Scrapbook Day workshop on April 22 & April 23!  I made these pages using our exclusive National Scrapbook Day paper and stickers.  Attending my event is the only way to get these great items.  Attend both days or one.  There will be lots of scrapping, make-n-takes, demos and displays, a page class, door prizes and more!  Please contact me for a registration form.

2-page-watermarks-page-009

I made the water using our Shape Maker and 2″ Circle Cartridge.  The boat was made with our Border Maker and Film Strip Cartridge.  The flags were either free hand cut or punched with our Chevron and Star Border Maker Cartridges.  The clouds are trimmed from our Word Bubble Punch.
