Crisscross Diamond Layout

For my August Technique Layout, I reached for one of my favorite Creative Memories tools—the Gemstone Custom Cutting Patterns!

I was surprised to see this pattern set in the Last Chance section of the Creative Memories website because I use the heart, hexagon, egg, and diamond shapes often in my layouts.

If you don’t already have this versatile set in your scrapbooking toolbox, you may want to order it sooner rather than later. Once it’s gone, it won’t be returning.

The layout below features the diamond pattern, showing just one of the many ways you can use these cutting patterns.

I used the same technique to create both of my layouts but achieved a very different look with my paper selections, width of my scrips and the orientation of my photo mats.

For my first layout, I used the lovely Hydrangea Haven Collection paired with White and Baby Blue Cardstock.

To create the quilt-inspired design, I cut 3/8″ x 12″ strips from several of the gorgeous Hydrangea Haven papers and arranged my photo mats vertically to showcase the pattern.

For the finishing touches, I created embellishments with the Hydrangea Blossoms Border Maker Cartridge and the Embossed Leaves Punch. I also added lots of faux pen stitching, which gives the layout a cozy, quilted appearance.

For my second layout, I used the beautiful Lakeside Memories Collection with Beige and Dark Green Cardstock.

This time, I cut 1/2″ strips and arranged my photo mats horizontally, creating a different look from my first layout. To add even more depth and definition, I inked the edges of my papers and embellishments with the Hot Fudge Ink Pad.

It’s amazing how changing the strip width, photo orientation, and color palette can transform the same technique into a fresh new design. I love how this layout turned out, and I think it’s every bit as striking as the first!

I hope these layouts inspire you to experiment with your own favorite collections and see how versatile this technique can be.

All of the tools and materials that I used for both layouts are available through Creative Memories using my website link.
