CLS Summer Blog Hop – Star Spangled Scrapbook Layouts

Happy Fourth of July, and welcome to our Creative Life Scrapbooking Summer Blog Hop!  There are six of us blog hopping today and sharing some great summer scrapbooking ideas with you.  I’m the first stop on the hop, and you can find the link to the next stop at the bottom of my post.

I used the new Limited Edition Star Spangled Paper Pack from Creative Memories to create my 4th of July layout.  This paper pack is only available while supplies last and features traditional patriotic designs and true red, white and blue colors.  I was inspired by the name of the paper pack to create a layout featuring stars.  Currently, CM has three star-based tools that I used for my layout – the Star Border Maker Cartridge, the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch, and the Shooting Star Punch.

KarynCropsWordpressCLSSummerBlogHopStarSpangled - Page 084

Start your layout by creating a border for the top of your page.  Use the Original Border Maker System with Star Border Maker Cartridge to punch a border from the light blue patterned paper.  Cut the border off of your paper at 1-1/2″ using the 12″ Decorative Trimmer.  Use the 12″ Decorative Trimmer to cut a narrow 1/8″ piece from Red Cardstock for the bottom of the border.

Mat a 4″ x 6″ photo with Red Cardstock.  Create photo corners from 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ squares that are punched with the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

I created my jumbo star from 5 triangles that I matted with slightly larger triangle shapes.  Cut three 3-1/4″ x 4″ squares and two 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ squares from the red patterned paper.  Cut three 3-3/4″ x 4-1/2″ squares and two 4″ x 5″ squares from the light blue patterned paper.  Cut each square into a triangle as shown below and mat the red squares on top of the blue squares.  Assemble your star, by positioning the pieces in relation to your photo to get the spacing and shape that you desire.  I used Repositionable Tape for my star pieces as I had to tinker with them a bit.  I adhered my photo with Foam Squares.

The title piece is cut from one of the sheets of the Star Spangled Paper and double matted with light blue paper and Red Cardstock.  Punch the corners of the light blue paper with the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

To embellish the page, I cut the heart piece from a sheet of the Star Spangled Paper, matted it with Red Cardstock, and adhered it with Foam Squares.  The light blue flowers are from the Mix & Match Blue Bouquet Embellishments, and I punched the ribbon pieces using the Shooting Star Punch.  The stars in the centers of the flowers were punched using the 4-Way Hearts & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

For my second page, I created a side border using the leftover triangle pieces from cutting the star pieces for the first page.  I repeated the top border, and matted my larger photo in the same fashion as my photo on the first page.  I included a journaling box and another paper flower embellishment.

Americana Scrapbook Layouts

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-Fun4thCloseUp

The July 4th holiday is always a great mid-summer excuse to get together with friends and family.  I love grilling out, yard games, fireworks and all of the pageantry of the holiday.  Last year, we celebrated on our new boat with good friends.

I used the new Americana Paper pack from Creative Memories to scrapbook our memories of the day.  Although there are no stickers or embellishments to accompany this paper pack, I was able to create some great layouts using a variety of our tools.

KarynCrops.wordpress.com-Fun4th

To create this layout, cut a 5″ x 8″ piece of dot paper in half diagonally using the 12″-Inch Straight Trimmer.  Use the Original Border Maker with Star Cartridge to punch two borders from cranberry cardstock.  Arrange and adhere the pieces on a sheet of navy cardstock as shown.  Repeat for the second page.

Use the CM Shooting Star Punch and a Silver Metallic Pen to create firework embellishments for the pages.  Adhere the stars with Foam Squares for extra pop.  Create a variety of waving stripes for embellishments and journaling boxes using the 12″-Inch Decorative Trimmer.  Add a title with Navy ABC/123 Stickers.

The Americana Paper and a few tools proved perfect for my fireworks photos.  Cut the starburst sheet of paper in half to get two pieces that measure 12″ x 6″ each.  Cut two sheets of the blue stripe paper to 12″ x 7″ each.  Use the Original Border Maker with Midnight Star Cartridge to punch two borders from cranberry cardstock.  Adhere all of the pieces together to get two 12″ x 12″ pages.

To create the diagonal photo mat, cut a piece of cranberry cardstock to 3-3/4″ x 12″ and crop three photos and a piece of beige word patterned paper to fit.  Adhere to page, and cut off the overhang.

Add additional photos matted with cranberry cardstock.  I used a 7″ x 5″ photo cut in two pieces on the page above and two 4″ x 6″ photos on the first page.  Add titles with Navy ABC/123 Stickers and additional stars punched with the Shooting Star Punch.

My last layout is yet another version of my jumbo heart pages.  (Please see my blog post from February and my guest post on the CM Blog for other versions.)  This version of a waving flag was created with the 12″-Inch Decorative Trimmer.

Create a heart template by folding a piece of 12″ x 12″ cardstock in half. (The paper insert in our paper packs works great for this.)  Draw half of a heart shape and cut out with scissors.  From blue print and red striped papers, cut 1″ wide strips using the “swell” side of the 12″ Decorative Trimmer.  Use a small amount of CM’s Re-Positional Tape Runner to lightly adhere the strips to your template leaving 1/8″ in-between each strip.  Turn over your heart and cut off the over-hang.  Carefully remove each strip taking care not to bend the paper (CM’s Multi-Purpose Tool is great for this!).  Add more adhesive to each piece and re-adhere on a piece of beige word print paper to reassemble your heart.  Start with your bottom piece and work your way up.  As you may need to “tinker” with your pieces to get the shape right, just lightly lay the pieces down at first and move slightly as needed.  When you’re happy with your shape, rub on the pieces to more tightly adhere them.  The Re-Positional Tape will be very handy.  It’s supposed to look like a waving flag, so your shape doesn’t need to be perfect.

Create a banner for the top of the page with blue hearts punched and trimmed from CM’s Shooting Star Punch and smaller stars punched from the Original Border Maker System with Star Cartridge.  Adhere the banner pieces with Foam Squares.

Add a title using Denim ABC/123 Stickers and more stars adhered with Foam Squares to the bottom of your page.  Use a Black Dual-Tip Pen to finish your page with details.

You may purchase the Americana Paper and any of the tools that I used on my CM website.

Today I’m sharing the first of several layouts that I’ve created with the new Christmas Past Collection from Creative Memories.  The Christmas Past Paper Pack contains 12 sheets of designer print paper that is double-sided with 24 unique prints.  Since the pack only contains one sheet of the woodland print paper, I used a mat from the Christmas Past Variety Mat Pack to continue the print on the second page.

I also used several of our newest tools to create these pages.  The border across the top was punched from our new Silver Shimmer Cardstock with our Original Border Maker System and new Snowflake Chain Border Maker Cartridge.  The border at the bottom of the pages was created with our Leaf Trio Punch.

I created the large Christmas Tree using the Grass Border Maker Cartridge of our Original Border Maker System, and the star on top was punched with our Shooting Star Punch.  The small snowflake accents were punched with our new Christmas Quartet Punch.  The beautiful die cut is from the Christmas Past Embellishments.

To make these pages, you’ll need:

Christmas Past Paper Pack
Christmas Past Embellishments
Christmas Past Slide-In Pack
Evergreen Cardstock
Silver Shimmer Cardstock
Ruby ABC/123 Stickers
Foam Squares
Tape Runner
Silver Pen
12-Inch Straight Trimmer
Original Border Maker System with Grass and Snowflake Chain Cartridges
Leaf Trio Punch
Shooting Star Punch
Christmas Quartet Punch
All-Purpose Scissors
Small Hole Punch
To purchase any of these items, please visit my website.

Instructions:

  1.  From Silver Shimmer Cardstock, punch two borders using the Border Maker with Snowflake Chain Cartridge.  Adhere borders to tops of pages using Foam Squares.
  2.  From Evergreen Cardstock, punch fern pieces using Leaf Trio Punch.  Adhere across the bottoms of the pages as shown and accent with dots punched from red designer paper.

To Finish the Page on the Left:

  1. Add title with Ruby ABC/123 Stickers.
  2. Cut a 6-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ piece from the red plaid designer paper.  Cut a 6-1/16″ x 4-1/16″ piece from the Evergreen Cardstock.  Adhere the green piece onto the red plaid piece, add a photo, and adhere to page.
  3. Using the Original Border Maker System and Grass Cartridge, punch a border from Evergreen Cardstock and cut border off of cardstock at 2″.  Repeat.  From the borders, use All-Purpose Scissors to cut five pieces with diagonal edges.  For my tree, three pieces are 3-1/2″ wide, one piece is 2-1/2″ wide and the top piece is 2″ wide.  Use Silver Pen to outline grass edges.  Assemble tree as shown onto page.  From Silver Shimmer Cardstock, punch a star using the Shooting Star Punch.  Adhere star with foam squares.
  4. Adhere die cut embellishment with Foam Squares and embellish with silver shimmer snowflakes punched with the Christmas Quartet Punch.

To Finish the Page on the Right:

  1. From the red plaid designer paper cut an 11-2/8″ x 6-2/8″ piece, and from the Evergreen Cardstock cut a 10-12/16″ x 5-5/8″ piece.  Adhere the green piece to the red plaid piece and trim photos to fit onto the mat.
  2. Cut a  6-1/2″ x 1/2″ piece from the top of the woodland variety mat.  Assemble these pieces and the photo as shown.  Embellish with additional fern punch-outs and a rhinestone embellishment.

September Crop Club

2-page-watermarks-page-003

At my September Crop Club, we made three double-page layouts using the same page sketch, one pack of Denim Blues Paper, one pack of Denim Blues Embellishments and one sheet of white cardstock.  We also used our new Lace Scallop and Circle Weave Border Maker Cartridges and our new Shooting Star Punch.  Our Denim Blues ABC/123 Stickers were an additional item that could be added.  Please contact me to purchase this kit.

cropclubsept16

We used this page sketch that my friend, Noreen Smith, designed for Creative Memories.

2-page-watermarks-page-003

This page features our Lace Scallop Border Maker Cartridge and a mixture of the flower and button embellishments for very sweet and feminine look.  It’s hard to see, but the background paper features tiny light blue dots on a white background.

2-page-watermarks-page-002

For a more masculine look, I used a large square in the background instead of a circle and also featured our new Circle Weave Border Maker Cartridge and the button embellishments.  Our new Repositionable Tape Runner Refill was perfect for adhering the delicate Lace Scallop and Circle Weave borders!

2-page-watermarks-page-001

This fun and spirited layout features our new Shooting Star Punch.  The bottom strips with the stars were cut from the backside of the background papers.  After cutting off the strips, I “taped” them back to the background papers with the striped strips.  The white letter stickers are an old CM product.
