National Scrapbook Day Layouts – Part 2

Hello!  I’m back with three more layouts that I made from Creative Memories 2020 National Scrapbook Day Kit.  Please see my post from Friday, August 7th for my first layout.  The National Scrapbook Day Kit is super sweet and still available for purchase.  Please use my CM link to order.  Click on Shop and then Virtual Events on the top menu bar to find the kit.  You may wish to purchase the Bundle as you will also get the extra embellishments that I used for my layouts.

I used up almost all of the paper, stickers and embellishments from the NSD kit to make my four layouts.  Please read the instructions carefully, so you’ll have enough materials to make all four layouts.   To make the second layout that I’m sharing today, you’ll need a piece of reserved paper that you cut from my first layout from August 7th (Step 1).

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 011

For my second layout, I created a woven basket piece as a background with the strawberry print paper to highlight a special photo from my granddaughter’s first birthday party.  The circular piece created with the Floral Circle Punch reminds me of the crocheted doilies that my grandmothers used to create.

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 010

To create my layout:

1.  Cut a hollow frame from a sheet of Scarlet Cardstock.  Set aside the cut out square to use for the next layout.  Cut the strawberry paper to 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ and adhere over the hollow frame.
2.  Cut strips of the dark green and light green papers to 7/8″ x 6″  and 7/8″ x 10-1/8″.  Cut strips of White Cardstock to 1″ x 6-1/8″ and 1″ x 10-1/4″.  Adhere the green strips on top of the white strips.
3.  Evenly position the shorter dark green pieces in the lower center part of your page, and adhere the tops of the pieces with Tape Runner.  Weave through the longer light green pieces, and slide the three long pieces until they’re evenly spaced. Adhere the ends with Tape Runner.  Adhere the bottoms of the dark green pieces.
4.  From Evergreen Cardstock (or Dark Green Cardstock), use the Floral Circle Punch to punch a circle and then trim as shown.  Use the Custom Cutting System with the smallest Circle Pattern and Red Blade on the outside edge to cut a circle from White Cardstock.  Trim as shown and adhere to the floral circle piece.  Add faux stitching with a Dual-Tip Black Pen.
5.  Mat a photo with White Cardstock measuring 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″.
6.  Add embellishment pieces with Foam Squares as shown.

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 004

Although I didn’t grow strawberries, my blueberry bushes exploded with an abundance of berries this year!  I found myself competing with the backyard wildlife, and I had to hustle to pick my ripe berries before the birds and squirrels ate them.  My battle with the birds inspired my next layout that features a row of birds sitting above the strawberry patch.  The lovely Songbirds Border Punch has been one of my favorite CM punches this past year.

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 002

To make my layout:

1.  Cut a piece of strawberry paper to 12″ x 4″ and adhere to the bottom of the green striped paper.  I positioned my stripes to run horizontally.  Use the Original Border Maker System with the new Ruffle Trim Border Maker Cartridge to punch a border from Scarlet Cardstock, and adhere to the strawberry strip.
2.  Cut a piece of Scarlet Cardstock to 9-1/4″ x 10″.  From the center of your piece, use the Custom Cutting System with the small heart pattern from the Gemstone Cutting Patterns and Green Blade on the outside edge to cut two heart photo mats.  Also cut a 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ piece to use as a photo mat.  When cutting these pieces, make sure to leave an edge around your cardstock as you will use this now hollow piece as a frame for the leftover gray dot piece from the first layout (See my post from August 7th.)  The gray dot piece measures 9″ x 9″, so position it towards the bottom of the scarlet frame piece.
3.  From Evergreen Cardstock (or Dark Green Cardstock) punch a 9″ border using the Lace Trim Border Punch.  Cut off of your cardstock at 2″.  Position this piece on top of the gray dot piece leaving the Scarlet Cardstock frame showing.
4.  Use the Songbirds Border Punch to punch a row of birds from Evergreen Cardstock.
5.  Adhere pieces as shown and add stickers and embellishments as shown.  I used Foam Squares for my ribbon pieces at the top of the layout.

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 008

My last layout evokes another garden scene of picking strawberries.  I created a strawberry patch with the On the Vine Border Punch and heart punch outs.  The sweet little basket was inspired by my scrapping buddy, Fran Smitherman, who shared several ideas for creating baskets on our Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook page.

KarynCropsNSDLayouts - Page 006

To make my layout:

1.  Cut a 12″ x 3″ piece of strawberry paper and adhere to the top of the gray dot paper.  Use the Original Border Maker System with the new Ruffle Trim Border Maker Cartridge to punch a border from Scarlet Cardstock, and adhere to the strawberry strip.
2.  Use the On the Vine Border Punch to punch a border from Evergreen Cardstock (or Dark Green Cardstock).  Adhere to the bottom of the page.  Use the Original Border Maker System with the Heart Duet Border Maker Cartridge to punch hearts from Scarlet Cardstock.  Use a black pen to add detail to the hearts and adhere over the circles in the vine piece.
3.  Use the Floral Circle Punch to punch a piece from White Cardstock and trim as shown. Adhere to top of the page.
4.  Add two 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ photo mats from Scarlet Cardstock.
5.  Use the Basketweave Border Punch to punch a piece from Brown Cardstock.  Trim with scissors as shown.  To create the handle, use the Custom Cutting System with the medium sized Circle Pattern and the Blue and Red Blades to cut a hollow frame piece.  Cut on the inside edge with the Blue Blade first and then without moving the cutting pattern, cut again with the Red Blade.  Trim with scissors to fit the basket piece.
6.  Add stickers, embellishments and a bird punched with the Songbirds Border Punch. Adhere some with Foam Squares as shown.

I hope you like these super sweet pages!  Don’t feel like you need “strawberry” photos for them.  Just use photos of your family members – or maybe stage some photos eating strawberry shortcakes or strawberry ice cream : )

Please note that the new Ruffle Trim Border Maker Cartridge sold out during CM’s promo last month. CM has ordered more of this cartridge, and it is expected to be back in stock in November.  To place an order, please use my Creative Memories website link.

Thanks so much for visiting with me, and I’ll be back at the end of the month with the Creative Life Scrapbooking 2020 Summer Blog Hop!

Daydreamer Scrapbook Layouts

Hello!  Today I’m sharing some layouts that I created earlier this past spring.  The Daydreamer collection from Creative Memories is one of my favorite collections from this year, and I wanted to show it to you before it sells out.  Photographs of this collection do NOT do it justice.  The subtle light-colored patterns and the sparkle on the embellishments are hard to capture.  Trust me – it is even more beautiful in person!  I’ve already used up three sets of it!

KarynCropsDayDreamer - Page 004

My first layout features pretty frames punched with the Petal Frame Punch from Creative Memories and some beautiful embellishment/sticker clusters.  I can’t wait to find the perfect photographs for it!

To make my layout:

1.  Cut burgundy paper to 10″ x 10″.
2.  Cut white/beige paper to 10″ x 10″, and punch around the edges with the Petal Frame Punch.
3.  Cut yellow photo mats to 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″.
4.  Cut journaling box from White Cardstock using the Custom Cutting System with the medium sized Circle Pattern and the Green Blade on the inside edge.
4.  Punch a 4″ x 4″ burgundy square with the Petal Frame Punch.
5.  Assemble page as shown.
6.  Layer Daydreamer Stickers and Embellishments as shown and adhere with Foam Squares.

My second layout features another pretty framed piece that I created with the Lace Trim Border Punch and more of the lovely Daydreamer Embellishments and Stickers.  The Lace Trimer Border Punch is another favorite of mine.  It’s great for layering and for making pretty pages!

KarynCropsDayDreamer - Page 002

To make my layout:

1.  Use the Lace Trim Border Punch to punch 4 borders from White Cardstock.  Cut the pieces off of the cardstock at about 1-1/4″ and trim to 9-1/5″ in length.
2.  To make mitered corners on your border pieces, place the borders onto the 45 degree line on your 12″ Trimmer.  Place the upper edge of the border onto the dashed cutting line and cut.  Flip the border over to the backside, turn it around and place the other end onto the 45 degree line and upper edge on the dashed cutting line, and cut.

IMG_3075

IMG_3075

3.  Cut green paper to 7-3/8″ x 7-3/8″.
4.  Cut photo mats to 4″ x 6″ and 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″.
5.  Cut journaling circle or photo frame using the Custom Cutting System with the largest Circle Pattern and the Red and Green Blades on the inside edge.
6.  Assemble layout as shown.  Add stickers and embellishments adhering some with Foam Squares.

For my next layout, I used a quick and easy technique that I borrowed from Tessa Chapple.  Tessa calls this technique Shadow Borders.  You can use this technique with any of our border punches or even our border maker cartridges.  This is a great technique for the Roller Coaster Border Punch!

KarynCropsDayDreamer - Page 007

To make my layout:

1.  Punch both ends of the pink paper with the now discontinued Tulips Border Punch.  Cut the bottom end off of the paper, flip it over to its backside and adhere onto the pink paper.
2.  Use Foam Squares to adhere a 4-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ Daydreamer Variety Mat to the center of the page.
3.  Cut two additional Daydreamer Variety Mats to 3-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ and adhere at angles.
4.  Add Daydreamer border stickers to the top and bottom of the layout.  Add additional stickers and embellishments adhering some with Foam Squares.

I was inspired by the Mother’s Day post on the CM Blog to create my last layout.  Instead of using circles cut with the Custom Cutting System, I punched circles using the Floral Circle Punch to create my heart pieces.  This layout is even prettier in person!

KarynCropsDayDreamer - Page 001

To make my layout:

1.  Cut two 6″x6″ pieces from the Ombre sheet of paper and punch with the Floral Circle Punch.
2.  Cut the two circle pieces into fourths.  Please refer to the instructions and diagram on the CM Blog  for cutting and arranging the pieces.
3.  My photo mats are 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ and 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″.
4.  Add embellishments, stickers and journaling as shown.

I love to make pretty pages, and the Daydreamer collection provides the prefect materials!  Again – trust me – it’s even more beautiful in person!  You can purchase the Daydreamer collection and the tools that I used through my CM website link.

Happy Scrapping!

Home-Bound Throw-Down Challenge – Week 5

Whew, April was a looong month!  For more reasons that one – huh?  But we made it through 5 weeks of self-quarantining and scrapbook challenges!  I’ve really enjoyed our Home-Bound Throw-Down, and I hope that you have also.  I’m a little sad to leave it behind, but I’m looking forward to new scrapping events and opportunities.  Please follow me on Facebook at Karyn’s Croppers to participate in my new Zoom classes on Thursdays in May and also our Karyn’s Croppers Virtual National Scrapbook Day workshop on Saturday, May 9th.

My 9th challenge for the Home-Bound Throw-Down features a way to use up scraps of paper and have with a combo of border punches and Border Maker cartridges.  I’m still using the Spring Medley collection from Creative Memories, and I must say that it’s one of my favorites from the past year.

KarynCropsHomeBoundThrowDown9&10 - Page 005

To make my layout:

1.  Cut strips of paper in varying widths and 1″ high.
2.  From cardstock, punch a variety of borders using border punches and the Original Border Maker System.  I used Navy, Cloud, Peacock and Deep Sea Green Cardstock with the Cable Chain and Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridges and the Flower Child, Songbirds, and Lace Trim Border Punches.
3.  Triple mat your photo to give it extra depth and dimension.
4.  Adhere Spring Medley Stickers and Embellishments with Foam Squares.

HomeBoundThrowDown#9
For my 10th and final Home-Bound Throw-Down challenge, I created another layout for my Covid-19 project.  This layout will feature a photo of my husband and me on our front porch.  As you might be aware, there is a movement that is encouraging folks to have family photos taken on front porches to document their experience sheltering at home.  Neighbors are taking photos for neighbors, and professional photographers are offering this service.  If you search Facebook and/or Instagram, you’ll find heartwarming to creatively hilarious family photos that document this time.  I haven’t yet decided what our pose might be, but I plan to ask our neighbor to take our photo soon.

KarynCropsHomeBoundThrowDown9&10 - Page 006

This layout features the NEW 12″ Trimmer Stamping Blade.  I can not sing enough good praises for the 12″ Trimmer from Creative Memories!  I’ve been scrapbooking for a long time, and this is the BEST trimmer that I’ve used.  If you haven’t yet seen the trimmer, please click on this link to view a video that describes it’s features and benefits.  In addition to a straight blade, we have currently have 7 specialty blades that cut a variety of patterns.  The new Stamping Blade cuts a postage stamp edge.

IMG_2277

To create my layout:

1.  Cut a variety of Spring Medley Designer Paper to 2″ x 4″ and 2″ x 1-1/2″ sizes using the  12″ Trimmer with the Stamping Blade.
2.  Decorate a 6-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ photo mat with punched pieces from the Branch Border Punch.  Adhere the branches with small Foam Squares cut in half.
3.  Create a bird’s nest by layering two pieces punched with the Pine Cone Punch and trimming with scissors to shape.  Use the Songbirds Border Punch to punch two birds, cut apart with scissors and adhere inside of the nest.
4.  Add a Spring Medley Variety Mat for journaling and Spring Medley Stickers with Foam Squares.  (I LOVE how the sentiments on these stickers are perfect for my porch photo!)

You may purchase any of the tools and/or materials that I used on my Creative Memories website.  (Please note that the Branch Border Punch and Pine Cone Punch are retired items.  But please contact me if you would like to purchase them as I have a few in my personal inventory.)

Have a lovely weekend!
Karyn

Home-Bound Throw-Down Challege – Week 4

Hello and welcome to the fourth week of my Home-Bound Throw-Down challenge!  I’m still using the Spring Medley collection from Creative Memories and really loving the fresh shades of blue and green.  Plus there’s a nice mix of small, large and tonal patterns.

I was inspired by the title “Living our best life right now” on the Variety Mat.  So I created a layout to document the ways that my husband and I are staying busy during the Covid-19 pandemic.  I was even able to persuade my husband to do his own journaling!  I added the “Rain or Shine” sticker to the “Love Grows” embellishment as it reminds me of our wedding vows, “for better for worse, in times of sickness or health…“.

KarynCropsApril2020 - Page 084

To create my layout:
1.  Use the Custom Cutting System with the smaller heart from the Gemstones Cutting Patterns to cut 5 hearts from patterned paper using the Green Blade on the outside edge.  Use the Red Blade on the outside edge to cut 3 hearts from light print paper, and adhere to three of the larger patterned hearts.
2.  Cut your photo and Variety Mat to 3″ x 3-3/4″.  Cut photo mats to 3-1/4″ x 4″.  Adhere.
3.  Add journaling, embellishments and stickers as shown.

KarynCropsApril2020 - Page 085

HomeBoundThrowDown#7

My next layout is simply a pretty page that features the new Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridge and Baroque Border Punch.  And I also used our new Dark Sea Green Cardstock.  For some of my past layouts, I used Navy Cardstock with the Spring Medley collection.  Cloud, Peacock, Beige and White Cardstock also look nice with this collection.

HomeBoundThrowDownPhotos#8 - Page 001

To make my layout:
1.  Cut six strips that measure 2″ x 6″ and adhere onto a 12″x 12″ sheet of designer paper.
2.  Use the Original Border Maker System with the Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridge to punch 3 borders from Dark Sea Green Cardstock and cut in half at 6″.  Adhere these pieces in-between the strips.
3.  From Dark Sea Green Cardstock, use the Baroque Border Punch to punch a border and adhere at the bottom of the strips.  Add a sticker strip to the top of the border piece.
4.  Add 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ photo mats from White Cardstock.
5.  Use the Custom Cutting System with the medium sized Circle Pattern and the Red Blade on the inside edge to cut a circular journaling box.
6.  Add stickers and embellishments with Foam Squares as shown.

Home-Bound Throw-Down Challenge – Week 3

Well, we made it through another week of self-isolation.  Congrats to us!  At this point, it’s somewhat beginning to feel almost normal.  Below is an excerpt from a post that I made to Karyn’s Croppers earlier in the week.

There’s no denying it – we’re living through a historic event. I like to think of my personal scrapbook albums as my diary, and I need to include the Covid-19 Pandemic in my scrapbook. There are different ways that we could approach this topic in our albums, and I encourage you to think about how you are going to document this time. After all, we are the memory keepers and storytellers.

I decided to do what I always do – take photos of my life. These photos will be of things that I’m doing now – photos of me and my husband and what we’re doing, photos of my garden, photos of food that I’m cooking, photos related to my CM business. So my photos and journaling will be a reflection of how the virus is impacting our daily life. These photos will show how our daily life has changed. Instead of photos of us out and about, there will be photos of us doing things at home. There will be photos of us wearing masks, washing groceries, and having zoom calls with friends and family. Absent will be photos of us with the kids and grandkids. I decided not to create a dedicated album to the virus but to rather just incorporate it into my annual chronological family album.

So with this in mind, my next challenges for our Home-Bound Throw-Down  feature layouts that you can use to document the Covid-19 pandemic in your albums.  But the layouts are versatile enough that you can use them for any of your photos.

HomeBoundThrowDown#5My example for this layout features a photo of my window display for #aworldofhearts.  A few weeks ago, a world-wide movement called #aworldofhearts was created to encourage everyone to decorate their front windows with hearts as a display of love, hope, and unity and also to thank essential workers.  Search for #aworldofhearts on Facebook, and you’ll find a page devoted to these creations.  They range from sweet and simple to incredibly elaborate.  Some are using sidewalk chalk and decorating their driveways and sidewalks too.  I wanted to remember this huge heartwarming gesture and created a layout to document it in my scrapbook.

HomeBoundThrowDown5Photo

I used designer paper, tone-on-tone paper and stickers from the very lovely Spring Medley collection from Creative Memoriesto create my layout.

1.  Cut a hollow frame from the floral paper.
2.  Cut the cloud paper to 11″ x 11″.  Rub the round-tip edge of a Dual-Tip Pen around the perimeter of the paper to create dimension and definition.  Adhere to the floral frame.
3.  Use the Custom Cutting System with the smaller heart pattern from the Gemstone Cutting Patterns and all three blades to cut and create balloons.  Use the old Small Heart Maker punch to create the bottom pieces of your balloons.  Rub the round-tip edge of a Dual-Tip Pen around the perimeter of the hearts to create dimension and definition.  Use the 12″ Decorative Trimmer to cut 1/8″ balloon strings.  Adhere the top balloon with Foam Squares.
3.  Add a title with White Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers.  Add Spring Medley Stickers using Foam Squares and journaling to complete your page.

HomeBoundThrowDown#6

When I get over-whelmed with the stress, anxiety and major disruptions that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused in my life, I like to remind myself that “things can always be worse”.  This has proven to be true in most of the bad times that I’ve experienced.  And despite the awfulness, there are always blessings to be counted.  So when I start feeling a little down about the current situation, I just remind myself of all the things for which I’m grateful.  I created the layout below as a reminder of some of my blessings during this pandemic.

HomeBoundThrowDown#6 - Page 082

Again I used paper, stickers and embellishments from the Spring Medley collection.  I printed my photos on my home computer in wallet size – 2-1/2″ x 3-1/4″ and matted them on Navy Cardstock.

1.  Use the Custom Cutting System with the larger heart pattern from the Gemstone Cutting Patterns and the Red Blade to cut hearts from the paper.  Use the Green Blade on the outside edge to cut hearts from Navy Cardstock.  Adhere the pieces and add faux pen stitching with a navy pen.
2.  Mat photos with 2-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ pieces of Navy Cardstock.
3.  Cut White Cardstock into 2-1/4″ x 1/2″ strips and add your blessings.
4.  Add a title with White Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers.  Journal on a tag from the Spring Medley Embellishments.  Adhere the tag and floral stickers from the Spring Medley Stickers with Foam Squares.  Add faux pen stitching around the perimeter of your layout.

I hope that you have many blessings to count and record!  You may purchase any of the materials that I used on my Creative Memories website.  I’ll be back next week with two more layouts.

Have a nice weekend,
Karyn

Home-Bound Throw-Down Challenge – Week 2

Last week, I initiated my Home-Bound Throw-Down challenge on my private Facebook group, Karyn’s Croppers.  On Mondays and Fridays through April, I will be posting page challenges and asking my followers to create my layout and post their versions to Karyn’s Croppers to earn chances to win a prize.  I’ll also be sharing the layout challenges here on Karyn Crops on Fridays.

HomeBoundThrowDown#3

Our third Home-Bound Throw-Down challenge is to create a spring sampler.  I created mine as a decorative piece to hang on my old Everyday Display in my kitchen.  I used pieces from the new Spring Medley Designer Paper, Tone-on-Tone Paper, Variety Mats, Stickers and Embellishments and Navy Cardstock.  I also used the Songbirds Border Punch, the Tulips Border Punch and the Gum Leaf Punch.

Watermarks - Page 077

My background paper measures 12″ x 12″, and the other pieces measure:  10″ x 10″, 3-1/2″ x 3-1/8″ and 6″ x 3-1/8″.  I adhered the border pieces, stickers and embellishments with Foam Squares.  I finished the page by adding faux pen stitching to the rectangle pieces.

You can adapt this layout and include photos in any of the rectangular spaces.  You can also easily adapt it into a double-page spread.

For my fourth Home-Bound Throw-Down challenge, I created a double-page layout.  The layout features a wave cut that separates the rows of photos and paper pieces.  For my example, I created another spring layout.

HomeBoundThrowDown#4

I used paper and embellishments from CM’s old Mix and Match collection, White Cardstock and the Branch Border Punch to make my layout.  I used the 12″ Decorative Trimmer to cut a wave shape from the bottoms of the pieces on the first row and a wave shape from the tops of the pieces on the second row.

IMG_2039

To cut wave shapes from your photos and paper pieces:

1.  Take the photos and paper that will make up your first row and line them up on the trimmer (in the order that they will appear on your page) with the bottoms of the pieces a quarter inch past the right of the cutting groove.  The tops of the photos/papers will hang over the left side of the trimmer.  (See photo above.)
2.  Space the photos/papers apart a quarter inch on the trimmer base.  (See photo above.)
3.  Close the trimmer arm and apply pressure on the arm to keep your pieces from sliding.
4.  Cut.

IMG_2038
5. Take the photos and paper that will make up your second/bottom row and line them up on the trimmer (in the order that they will appear on your page) with the tops of the pieces a quarter inch past the left of the cutting groove.  The bottoms of the photos/papers will hang over the right side of the trimmer.  (See photo above.)
6.  Space the photos/papers apart a quarter inch on the trimmer base.  (See photo above.)
7.  Close the trimmer arm and apply pressure on the arm to keep your pieces from sliding.
8.  Cut.

KarynCropsHomeBoundThrowDown#4

I added journaling, sticker titles, flower embellishments and punched out branch pieces to decorate my pages.  I completed the layout with faux pen stitching around the perimeter.

You can purchase the 12″ Decorative Trimmer, Songbirds Border Punch, Tulips Border Punch, Gum Leaf Punch and the Spring Medley collection through my Creative Memories website link.

I hope that you all have a happy and blessed Easter on Sunday!  Please take photos of the not so usual way that you’ll celebrate the holiday this year.  I’ll be sharing some Easter layout ideas later in the month.

I’ll be back again next Friday with two more Home-Bound Throw-Down challenges!

Take care,
Karyn

Creative Life Scrapbooking Spring Blog Hop – Simply Sunshine Scrapbook Layouts

Welcome to our Creative Life Scrapbooking Spring Blog Hop!  We’re glad to be back sharing a wide variety of scrapping ideas with you!  Just click on the link at the bottom of my post to take you to the next stop on the blog hop.

I used the Simply Sunshine Collection from Creative Memories to make some spring layouts and a card.  Yellow is my happy color, and Simply Sunshine fills me with happiness!  But it’s not all yellow – there are shades of green and blush too.  The paper pack contains sweet floral prints mixed with a wood-pattern, plaid and some small neutral geometric prints.  And the stickers and embellishments are absolutely adorable!

KarynCropsCLSSpringBlogHop4
You can see some of this adorableness in my first layout that I filled with an abundance of the sweet stickers and embellishments.  They’re all so cute that it was hard to restrain myself!  I started with a 5″ x 7″ photo of my granddaugher that I trimmed to 4-3/4″ x 6-1/2″, and then I created a layout based on my current favorite tool – the Banner Flag Punch!  My layout reminds me of a spring clothesline hanging with banners of all sizes.

KarynCropsCLSSpringBlogHop7

My large banner pieces are 6-1/2″ x 9-1/2″ and 4-1/2″ x 7-1/2″.  I trimmed the variety mat with the spring title into a banner shape and tore some strips for the top and bottom of my layout.  I used the Banner Flag Punch to punch pieces and attached them to a 1/4″ strip, and then adhered the strip with banners with Foam Squares.  I added embellishments and stickers adhering some with Foam Squares.

KarynCropsCLSSpringBlogHop - Page 060

When I saw the bunny and chick embellishments, I immediately knew that I would be using Simply Sunshine to make an Easter layout.  The photos of my granddaughter sitting in the grass inspired me to make a multi-layered grass border for the bottoms of the pages.  To make the grass borders, use the Majestic Mountain Border Punch to punch four borders from the green print paper. Use your scissors to snip off the tops of the mountains as shown in my photo below.  Use the Tulip Border Punch to punch two borders from the yellow print paper and nestle the tulips in between the grass.  I used Foam Squares to give dimension to my grass border.

To complete my layout, I created little Easter vignettes with stickers, embellishments and Easter eggs that I cut from variety mats using the Custom Cutting System with the Gemstone Cutting Patterns.  (There is an egg shape inside of the smallest heart cutting pattern.)

KarynCropsCLSSpringBlogHop - Page 061

You may have already seen my third layout as it was featured in the April 12th-14th World Wide Virtual Crop held by Creative Memories.  To print a sketch of this layout, please click here to visit the CM Blog.  To create this layout, cut the dark green paper pieces to 11″ x 10″ and cut out the centers to conserve paper.  Also cut out the centers of the floral paper used as the background to conserve paper.  Cut the light green paper to 10-3/4″ x 9-1/2″.

My border pieces measure 12″ x 2″ and 12″ x 1-1/4″.  I created the scallop piece on the borders by punching Hay Shimmer Cardstock with the Original Border Maker System with the Rainbow Cartridge and using scissors to snip off the inside loop.

I cut five photos with the Custom Cutting System with the smallest circle pattern with the red blade on the outside edge and cut the mats with the green blade.   My vertical photos measure 3-1/4″ x 6″ and are matted with 3-1/2″ x 7-1/4″ and 3-1/2″ x 9″ pieces of evergreen cardstock.  The border pieces on top of the photos are 3-1/2″ x 1″.  I punched a few smaller flowers from Hay Shimmer using the Embossed Trio Flower Punch.  Make sure to adhere some of the embellishments and the “Sunshine” sticker with Foam Squares for dimension.

KarynCropsCLSFeaturedFridayCard

The last item that I created is a folded double-pocket card using a sheet of the Simply Sunshine paper and the new 12″ Trimmer from Creative Memories.  I shared this project on our Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook page earlier in the month.  Please click here to view a video that shows how to cut and fold the paper to make the card.  I decorated the pockets of my card with pieces punched with the Original Border Maker System and Rainbow Cartridge and filled my card with tags that I created using the 4-Way Essentials Punch.

National Scrapbook Day 2019 – Daisy Scrapbook Layouts

Each spring, scrapbookers around the world celebrate our love of scrapbooking with National Scrapbook Day.  This year, I’m holding my National Scrapbook Day workshop on May 4th – the “official” day of NSD.  My event is almost full, but please contact me if you would like more information about my workshop.

Creative Memories has created some super cute exclusive 2019 NSD items that can only be purchased directly from a CM advisor.  There is a NSD Kit with materials and instructions to make 2 double-page layouts, a pack of coordinating cardstock, a NSD Daisy Album, and a 2019 NSD Charm.  If you don’t have a CM advisor, I would be glad to help you get any of these items.

I loved the NSD Kit so much that I made some additional layouts with it.  I also used the coordinating NSD Cardstock and NSD Gift Embellishments that are packaged as gift items for advisors.  I’ll use these layouts for photos from my National Scrapbook Day workshop.

To create my first layout, use scissors to hand-cut around the hexagon shapes of the yellow print paper.  My resulting piece is 12″ x 9″.  Fussy cut a 12″ by approximately 2″ strip of daisy paper and adhere under the yellow paper.  Cut individual and partial daisies and layer and adhere behind the first strip.  (You may wish to complete some of the other layouts first, and then cut your daisies from you scraps.)

To complete your page, add stickers and embellishments adhering some with Foam Squares as shown.  Use a black pen to add faux stitching and details as shown.

My second layout, is a fun take on the daisy theme.  Cut a hollow frame from a sheet of the Vista (blue) Shimmer Cardstock and attach a piece of 11″ x 11″ white cardstock.  Using the Custom Cutting System with the small Heart Pattern and Green Blade on the outside edge, cut 5 hearts from Vista Shimmer Cardstock.  Use the Red Blade on the outside edge to cut 5 hearts from the daisy print paper.  Use the smallest Circle Pattern with Blue Blade on the outside edge to cut a circle from the yellow print paper.  My photo mat is 6-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ and is also from the Vista Shimmer Cardstock.

(This exclusive shimmer cardstock is significantly lighter in weight than other shimmer cardstock that CM has offered.  So it’s much easier on our blades and punches.  The NSD Coordinating Cardstock also contains 2 sheets of Lagoon Shimmer Cardstock – an aqua shade that I did not use on any of my layouts.)

Complete your layout with stickers and embellishments adhering some with Foam Squares as shown.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 080

To make my third layout, cut a 12″ x 6-3/4″ piece of the green dot pattern from one of the sheets of multi-print paper and a 12″ x 5-1/4″ piece of the yellow print paper and adhere to a sheet of white cardstock.  (For layouts like these, I like to use the packaging piece of cardstock that is included in CM paper packs.  One side of these sheets is printed with info about the paper pack, but they are nice heavy sheets of photo-safe white cardstock.)

Use the Custom Cutting System with the old Jumbo Circle Pattern and Blue Blade on the inside edge to cut a half circle from the daisy print paper.  Use the Green Blade on the inside edge to cut a half circle from evergreen cardstock.  (Don’t cut full circles as you’ll want to conserve your paper.)  Use the Original Border Maker System with Lace Flower Chain Cartridge to punch two borders from the yellow print paper.  Adhere the three pieces bending the flower border as you adhere it behind the green cardstock.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 082

Use the Original Border Maker System with Lace Flower Chain Cartridge to punch a border from white cardstock and adhere to a 12″ x 1″ strip of evergreen cardstock.  Use the new Essentials 4-Way Punch to punch small circles for the flower centers from yellow print paper.  Adhere the border piece and the semi-circle on the page as shown.

From white cardstock, use the Banner Flag Punch to punch three banners.  Use a dark green pen to add faux stitching to the banners and the heart and flower embellishments.  Adhere banners with stickers and embellishments as shown adhering some with Foam Squares.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 084

For my next layout, adhere an 11″ x 7″ piece of daisy print paper and an 11″ x 2-3/4′ piece of the striped paper to a sheet of navy cardstock.  Use the Flower Child Punch to punch a border from yellow print paper.  Use the old CM Daisy Bouquet Punch to punch small daisies from white cardstock, and punch centers from yellow print paper using the new CM Essentials 4-Way Punch.  Adhere to the Flower Child border as shown and adhere finished border to the page.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 083

Use the Banner Flag Punch to punch banners from cloud cardstock, and use a navy pen to add faux stitching to the banners and the heart embellishments.  Create three clusters with embellishments and stickers as shown and adhere the cluster pieces with Foam Squares.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 088

For my last layout, I used a sketch from the recent World Wide Virtual Crop held by Creative Memories as my inspiration.  Adhere a 12″ x 3″ piece of yellow dot paper to a sheet of white cardstock.  Add a 12″ x 6-1/2″ piece of cloud cardstock and a 12″ x 1″ piece of yellow dot paper.  Use the old CM Daisy Punch to punch daisies from the daisy print paper and Vista Shimmer Cardstock, and cut flowers in half.  Punch flower centers from yellow paper using the Embossed Trio Flower Punch.  Assemble flower pieces and adhere to layout as shown adding a vine sticker.

KarynCropsNSDBlog - Page 079

Use the Custom Cutting System with the largest Circle Pattern and Blue Blade on the inside edge to cut two circles from daisy print paper.  Cut circles in half and adhere to bottom of layout as shown.  Cut a 4-3/4″ x 7″ piece of yellow paper and a 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ piece of Vista Shimmer Cartridge to create a photo mat.

My square daisy piece is the packaging from the NSD Gift Embellishments.  I cut it slightly and matted it with Vista Shimmer Cardstock.  From yellow print paper and Vista Shimmer Cardstock, I created a ribbon piece for the right edge.  Add stickers and embellishments adhering with Foam Squares as shown.

I hope that I’ve inspired you with my National Scrapbook Day layouts!  Please contact me if you would like to purchase any of these NSD materials as they are only available directly from a CM advisor.

Happy National Scrapbook Day!

Flourish Scrapbook Layouts – Flowers, Banners and More…

Today I’m sharing some scrapbook layouts that I made with the new Flourish collection from Creative Memories.  If you loved the Secret Garden collection from CM last year, you’re likely to also love this collection.  Like Secret Garden, Flourish is full of flowers and butterflies and features watercolor shades of purple and teal, but Flourish also contains a lovely shade of blush.

The Flourish Stickers feature watercolor prints of roses, leaves, hearts and butterflies and are printed on a clear poly.  This allows for the stickers to be layered with some of the background paper and bottom stickers showing through.  I must warn you to take heed when working with these stickers.  They are super sticky and seem to jump out of your hand and right onto your paper – not quite where you intended them to go.  Once on the paper, they are difficult to pull off without taking up some of the paper with it.  The stickers also won’t show up if you put them on the busier prints of paper.  I also found that they didn’t show well on the almost solid sheet of purple in the pack.  If you like the look of a more solid sticker and/or like to add dimension with Foam Squares, adhere the stickers to white cardstock and cut them out with scissors to create a die cut.  Although I found the stickers to be a little challenging to work with, I do love their ethereal watercolor look.

For my first layout, I went a little crazy with the stickers and created a watercolor wreath.  I started by cutting my watercolor background paper to 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ and adhering it to a sheet of 12″ x 12″ purple print with the center cut out.  I cut apart the stickers and arranged them on my paper to get my shape, spacing and layering figured out.  (If you use a pencil to draw a circle shape, be warned that the pencil marks will show through the stickers.)

I then started adhering the stickers taking care to overlap and layer as I went around.  I usually like a little dimension and texture on my layouts, so I added some leaf die cuts from the Blend & Bloom Greenery Embellishments (i.e. my current favorite item).  My photo is 4″ x 5″ and matted with a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of purple print paper and a piece of 5-1/4″ x 6-1/4″ large floral paper.  I love how this paper is a such a close match to my granddaughter’s bib!

KarynCropsFlourishBlogPhotos - Page 079

For my second layout, I adhered the rose stickers onto white cardstock and cut them out with scissors.  If you look closely, you’ll see some purple residue on my pink roses.  I first put them directly on the purple paper, but didn’t care for how they looked.  So I very carefully pulled them off, but some of the paper pigment remained.  I created a layered embellishment cluster with more leaves from the Blend & Bloom Greenery Embellishments (Did I mention that these are my current favorite product?) and some roses that I punched from white cardstock with the Original Border Maker with Rose Chain Border Cartridge.

KarynCropsFlourishBlogPhotos - Page 080

To make my layout, cut a strip of rose print paper to 2-1/2″ x 12″.  Use the Winter Vine Punch (a current favorite tool) to punch a border from the purple print paper and layer as shown.  Cut a 9″ x  10″ piece from the purple paper and a 8-1/2″ x 6-1/4″” piece of white cardstock.  Assemble as shown adding 1/2″ strips of the floral paper to the top and bottom of the purple piece.

KarynCropsFlourishBlog3 - Page 075

My next layout is an explosion of punched pieces, stickers and embellishments.  You’ll notice that I added a little bit of navy cardstock to provide some definition and contrast. For this layout, I adhered all of the Flourish Stickers onto white cardstock and cut out with stickers to create die cuts that could be adhered with Foam Squares.

KarynCropsFlourishBlog3 - Page 074

To make this layout, cut the floral paper to 12″ x 7″, and cut a thin strip of navy to adhere under the top edge.  Add the finished piece on top of a piece of the word print paper.  My photos are 4″ x 5″ and matted with 4-1/8″ x 5-1/8″ navy cardstock mats.  To create the bottom border, punch navy cardstock and green print paper with the Tulip Border Punch and off-set the pieces.  The borders are 8-3/4″ x 2″.

KarynCropsFlourishBlog3 - Page 076

For the top of your layout, create a crisscross double banner using the Banner Flag Punch.  Off-set each banner piece of print paper with a banner from navy cardstock.  Finish your layout by layering leaves from the Blend & Bloom Greenery Embellishments with Flourish Sticker adhered with Foam Squares.

KarynCropsFlourishBlog - Page 081

Although my last layout was made with Blend & Bloom Pink Paper, I included it here as it also prominently features the Blend & Bloom Greenery  Embellishments.  Over the years, we’ve had many embellishment packs of paper flowers and several flower punches, so I’m really excited to have this entire pack of greenery embellishments.  The leaves are intricately cut from a light-weight chip board.  And each leaf piece is double-sided with a different shade of green giving us more options to mix and match these embellishments.

KarynCropsFlourishBlog - Page 082

My photos are 3″ x 5-3/4″ and matted with a small dot patterned paper from the Blend & Bloom Pink Paper.  I layered the Blend & Bloom Greenery Embellishments with flowers and gemstone and pearl embellishments from the Blend & Bloom Foiled Flower Embellishments.  My layout also includes a banner punched with the Banner Flag Punch and adorned with hearts that were punched by the Original Border Maker with the Heart Duet Border Cartridge.  I adhered the banner pieces with Foam Squares and used White Script ABC/123 Stickers for my title.

I enjoyed creating these pretty pages and hope that I inspired you with a few ideas!  You can purchase all of the tools and materials that I used on my Creative Memories website.

Happy Scrapping!

Secret Garden Scrapbook Layouts

Oh my goodness!  The new Secret Garden Collection from Creative Memories just might be their most beautiful collection yet!  It’s full of soft watercolor designs in shades of purple and teal.  The Fast2Fab Album with Pre-Designed Pages is absolutely stunning, and has received rave reviews from my customers.  At my recent weekend retreat, I sold 6 of the Fast2Fab Albums!  Personally, I love the Secret Garden Stickers most of all.  The sticker pack is full of lovely floral arrangements and sweet sentiments that are perfect for adorning pretty pages and cards!

We used the Secret Garden Paper and Stickers at my Crop Club last month.  At Crop Club, we use one page sketch, one pack of paper, one pack of stickers or embellishments, and some cardstock to make three double-page layouts.  Please contact me if you live in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois area and would like to attend my Crop Club.  Or contact me if you’re interested in participating in my Crop Club by mail and would like to purchase my Secret Garden Crop Club Kit.  Below are the three layouts that can be created from the kit.

KarynCropsWordpressSecretGardenCropClubPages - Page 055

We used a 1-2-3 Page Sketch created by my friend, Noreen Smith.  Noreen has created a series of simple sketches that require only three cuts from one sheet of designer paper, and she shares some of these sketches on her blog, Organized & Creative Mom.  She has recently created an e-book of sketches that you can purchase from her blog.

The first layout is adorned with Secret Garden Stickers and also punch outs from CM’s new Double Heart Punch and borders punched with the Doily Border Punch.  The corners of the journaling box were punched with CM’s new 4-Way Heart & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

KarynCropsWordpressSecretGardenCropClubPages - Page 057

My second layout features a bottom border punched with the Original Border Maker System and the Picket Fence Cartridge.  The Picket Fence Cartridge is one of three cartridges that come with the system when purchased.  A thin 12″ x 5/8″ strip of designer paper was threaded through the picket fence to create a ribbon effect.

I also included a few hearts from the Double Heart Punch and another journaling box with corners punched with the 4-Way Heart & Stars Corner and Hole Punch.

KarynCropsWordpressSecretGardenCropClubPages - Page 056

My third layout features a lovely border that I created with the recently sold-out Teardrop Lattice Border Punch.  I punched one border and cut it in half lengthwise and adhered each half to each page and topped them with border stickers adhered with Foam Squares. (This is a good reminder that CM’s punches and cartridges for the Original Border Maker System are considered limited edition items and are only available in a set quantity.  These items are projected to stay in inventory for 3-12 months, but some sell out quickly.)

On all three of my layouts, you’ll notice that I adhered most of the flower, butterfly and title stickers with Foam Squares.  I love the added dimension that the Foam Squares provide to my pages.

You’ll also notice that all three layouts feature a different way to arrange five 4″ x 6″ and 6″ x 4″ photos.  However, you can crop your photos into smaller sizes and arrange them to your liking.

I love all three of these layouts and can’t decide which is my favorite.  Which one do you like best?  Please leave me a comment – I would love to hear from you!

I look forward to making and sharing more pretty pages with this beautiful collection!  Please contact me if you’re interested in purchasing the materials to create these layouts.

Happy Scrapping!
